Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is a therapeutic technique that uses specialized cups placed on the skin to create gentle suction within the tissues. The suction helps lift and separate layers of muscle and fascia, encouraging increased circulation, lymphatic flow, and the release of tension and stagnation within the body. Cupping may be used as a stationary treatment or combined with massage techniques by gently gliding the cups across the skin.
Cupping therapy may help with:
* Muscle tension and tightness
* Chronic pain and stiffness
* Neck, shoulder, and back discomfort
* Stress and fatigue
* Headaches and migraines
* Restricted mobility and fascial adhesions
* Circulation and lymphatic support
* Recovery from physical strain or repetitive movement patterns
After a session, temporary circular marks may appear on the skin. These marks are generally not bruises and are caused by the movement of blood and fluids to the surface tissues. The color and intensity of the marks can vary depending on circulation, areas of stagnation, muscle tension, and how long the cups are applied.
Common Cupping Mark Colors
*Light pink or faint marks:** Often indicate mild stagnation or healthy circulation and typically fade quickly.
*Bright red marks:** May suggest increased blood flow, heat, or recent tension within the tissues.
*Dark red or purple marks:** Often associated with deeper stagnation, chronic tension, or restricted circulation in the area.
*Brownish discoloration:** May reflect older stagnation or longer-standing muscular restriction.
*Little to no marking:** Can indicate good circulation and less tissue restriction in that area.
Cupping marks are temporary and usually fade within several days to two weeks depending on the individual and the intensity of the treatment.
