Proper Massage Draping

Proper massage draping is an important part of creating a safe, professional, and respectful therapeutic environment. Draping refers to the use of sheets, blankets, and towels to ensure the client’s privacy, comfort, and warmth throughout the session.

During a massage, the client remains appropriately covered at all times except for the specific area being worked on. Only one area of the body is uncovered at a time, while the rest of the body stays securely draped. Sensitive areas, including the breasts, genitals, and gluteal cleft, are always fully covered in accordance with professional standards and the scope of practice for massage therapists in California.

Clients may undress to their personal comfort level, and clear communication is encouraged throughout the session to maintain comfort and trust. Proper draping supports relaxation, professionalism, client safety, and ethical therapeutic care.
